‘Engagement’ was the word of moment at the recent Community Netball Development Forum, held in West Auckland.
55 Community Netball Coach and Umpire Developers from across the country - as far north as KeriKeri and as far south as Invercargill – were in attendance with all five Zones represented.
The Forum provided professional development and networking opportunities, as well as workshops on the new INF rules and the NetballSmart Neuromuscular warm-up.
Acting Head of Community Netball, Ruth Stanley said one of the biggest take-outs from the three-day forum was the renewed enthusiasm and commitment to Netball.
“It’s vital for the development of the sport in New Zealand that we’re all working towards the same goal and providing consistent support across all our programmes so we can deliver them to a higher quality,” Stanley said.
“Everyone was buzzing and they are the people that will spread the word, the knowledge and the passion all over the country. It’s huge for Netball that we’ve got such passionate people out there with so much knowledge.
“The variance in skill level was amazing too; we had young people straight out of university with all these new ideas and then we had experienced players and experienced coaches [Irene van Dyk, Sandra Edge and Keshia Grant], so the mix was really good.
“I think the passion out there is going to be the thing that keeps Netball going and growing.”
Coach and Umpire Developers: what they said
“Love, love, loved this one - what a great way to kick off the forum” – Alison Mooney’s day one presentation on pressing the right buttons.
“It’s great to meet up with everyone and bounce ideas off each other; it’s just awesome and I want more! I look forward to the next one as each year I grow and learn as a coach developer.”
“I came back to work filled with enthusiasm; overflowing with ideas and visions.”
“I am truly thankful for being invited to this amazing, life changing experience; networking and meeting strong women, being inspired and feeling loved.”
“It was a great three days! Very beneficial as it allowed us to communicate and forge relationships with people from other Centres and Zones. There are some truly amazing people involved in the sport and I am so grateful to have been a part of it.”
“Thanks very much for a great three days. It has definitely given us some more motivation to deliver exciting and cool netball programmes in our communities in our Zone!”
