Hawke’s Bay netball players and fans are set for a bumper weekend with the Haier Pulse, fresh from their hard-fought 53-47 victory over the Northern Mystics on Sunday. The programme begins on Saturday 22 March with a number of specialist clinics for developing players, coaches and managers and ends on Sunday with a 2014 ANZ Championship home game.

Haier Pulse players arrive in the region on Friday ahead of their Round 4 match against the Tactix. Currently lying in fourth place on the ANZ ladder, the team will be preparing for the game by assisting with a variety of netball activities in Hastings and Napier.

Head Coach Robyn Broughton will be attending a Junior Netball Fun Day led by Netball Central Zone Junior Development Officer at the Regional Sports Park, Hastings. This session utilises the exciting new Junior Netball format and will involve young netballers from Years 1 and 2.  Haier Pulse squad members, including Silver Ferns Katrina Grant, Joline Henry and Millie Lees, will be on hand to help with the games and sign autographs.

There is also an opportunity for aspiring team managers to hear from Haier Pulse Team Manager Jo Holmes, who will be hosting an informal workshop covering tips on how to manage school and representative teams at tournaments. She will also answer questions around things like devising an itinerary, keeping the players watered and fed and ensuring teams have all the correct gear.

Simultaneously, at Napier’s William Colenso College, Irene van Dyk and Donna Wilkins will be holding a shooting workshop for coaches involving junior shooters who have been nominated by their schools. The NCZ High Performance Manager will be leading a session with talent-identified player group of U15 and U17 players. Te Huinga Reo Selby-Rickit and Gemma Hazeldine will also be talking to the group about their own netball experiences from school teams right through to representing New Zealand.

NCZ Coach Development Officer and Former Silver Fern Sandra Edge and New Zealand Secondary Schools Coach and Haier Pulse Assistant Coach Marianne Delaney will also lead a workshop for secondary school and representative coaches.

Hawke’s Bay Netball General Manager, Tina Arlidge, is delighted to have such a high-calibre line-up working alongside the region’s players, coaches and managers. “This is a fantastic opportunity for netballers young and old to learn from the very best in our sport. Having so many Silver Ferns here at the same time is a real privilege and we are extremely grateful for their offer of spending time teaching our young players. We are all looking forward to the weekend and I’m sure the whole of Hawke’s Bay will be cheering on the Haier Pulse on Sunday.”

The Haier Pulse face the Tactix on Sunday 23 March at Pettigrew.Green Arena, Napier.  Centre pass is 7.20pm.
