Zones
69 Netball New Zealand Community Coach Workshops were delivered this year with 488 coaches in attendance.
The Zone would like to thank and recognise our valued Coach Developers who have facilitated NNZ Community Coach Workshops in 2017: Ann Rodgers, Ivy Topping, Tania Karauria, Lisa Murphy, Parekura Muraahi, Val Sampson, Carmell Wagg, Karen Bevan, Sandra Edge and Maria Hegarty.
Three informal coaching workshops were facilitated by current Silver Ferns Performance Analyst Dr Bobby Willcox in Lower Hutt, former Silver Fern Jodi Brown MNZM in Palmerston North and former Silver Fern Leana de Bruin in Stratford.
Seven coaches attained the ‘new’ NNZ Community Coach Level 1 Award (CCA) – Veronica Adams, Nina McGregor, Cynthia Lendrum, Ada Graham, Jenny Smith, Delwynn Walker and Yvonne Hill.
Natalie Milicich (the Zone) attained Netball New Zealand’s Performance Coach Qualification (PCQ) and was also awarded the NNZ Performance Coach of the Year Award. Che Tamati (Taranaki) was awarded the Netball New Zealand Community Coach of the Year Award.
The annual Coaching Conference ‘Great Coaches, Great Athletes’ was held in September at ASB Sports Centre, Wellington. Over forty coaches from around the Zone attended the event, which was facilitated by presenters including Mark Sorenson, Waimarama Taumaunu, Irene van Dyk, Yvette McCausland-Durie, Sandra Edge, Anna Andrews, Dion Te Whetu, Dr Natalie Hogg, Bella Ansell, Alex Johnson, Gina Di Rienzo and Dessi Broughton.
Congratulations to Netball Mainlands "Baby BEKO" member Georgia Stroud who has been named in the New Zealand Secondary Schools Squad.
Netball New Zealand has recognised three coaches throughout the country for their contribution to the game.
The Netball Northern Zone is pleased to announce that Ripeka Pirie has been appointed as the Head Coach for the Northern Marvels BEKO team in 2018.
We are pleased to announce the 2017-2018 athlete and coach selections for the Northern Zone Elite Performance Programme (NZEPP).
Please note: This athlete list is not final. There are some athletes who have not been able to be assessed either through injury or because they are relocating to Auckland in the New Year. We will assess their eligibility on a case by case basis as they become available.
Bench Officials Programme – Is under development, likely to begin in early 2018.
Northland NZEPP Hub 2018 – Development of this programme will begin in early 2018.

In preparation for the AMNOHL Maori national tournament in Gisborne next Easter, Waiariki Maori Netball are holding our team trials early next year.
Friday 13 October saw the launch of the first Netball Leaders Workshop, held at Toia - Otahuhu Recreation Precinct. 25 young people were selected from their respective schools to take part on the day, who examined the potential qualities to grow in to future leaders in their schools and wider communities.
