Welcome to our July Newsletter,

July is the least favourite time for any CEO of a franchise team in the ANZ Championship!  Player contracting is at its most frenzied and while players are trying to wind down from a busy season, we are desperately trying to engage and secure the best team that we can for 2014.  I am pleased that even after a challenging season this year a great number of the Northern Mystics players have been really committed to returning and wearing the Blue Dress with us again next year.  More announcements will be on their way soon.  It is also a busy time with sponsorship and the team is flat out preparing for membership sales to go live and for corporate hospitality packages to be finalised to put out in the market as well.  We have refreshed the Mystics dress design slightly for next year and will be updating the design on Facebook and the web site.

We were all pleased with how the U23 teams performed this year and a complete review process of the programme is underway now.  Hamish has been busy meeting with netball centres to gain an understanding of the development programmes that are underway and most of you will have caught up with Trish at your netball centre recently so it is a busy time for everyone.

The date for the Centre Forum has now been set on Saturday 14 September from 10 am – 3 pm, and we will be advising you of the programme, and venue as soon as possible.  I look forward to seeing as many representatives from centres as possible.  In the meantime Dianne and I and the board are continuing to meet with centres to present the Zone netball strategy.

I hope you are all enjoying a busy netball season

Julie Paterson – CEO Netball Northern Zone

She has also met up with Centres that have taken up with the CLUB/Centre WOF that RST’s are offering’s.

It has been wonderful catching up with key centre volunteer coaches, umpires managers and centre personnel at the various representative tournaments. . Well done to everyone on their achievements at the recent age group tournaments, with particular congratulations   to the Auckland U19 1 Winners and Auckland U15 1 winners. It was fantastic to see our Zone so well represented at each age group.

It has been a pleasure supporting Howick Pakuranga in their preparations as the host Centre for UNISS this year, a big thank you to Lynette Brady for again taking on the daunting task of the UNISS draw, a role she has done superbly for many years. Lynette is also the chairperson of the UNISS Management Committee.

HIGH PERFORMANCE: Hamish Barton (High Performance Manager) The month of July has been all about representative tournaments and there have been some fantastic results in the respective NNZAG tournaments from around the country.

National U23’s was held in Wellington at the amazing ASB Stadium from July 15 to July 18. Netball Northern Zone A team finished 4th and the Netball Northern Zone B team finished 6th in the inaugural U23 tournament. Both teams played extremely well in a very competitive tournament and I’d like to congratulate all the players on a superb effort not only at the tournament but in the lead up to the competition. I would also like to say a huge thank you to the coaches Helene Wilson (A Team Head Coach), Jenny-May Coffin (A Team Assistant Coach), Natalie Milicich (B Team Head Coach), Vicki Morgan (B Team Assistant Coach) and the Team Managers Jill Clapcott (A Team Manager) and Debra Hamilton (B Team Manager) for their amazing work and dedication to the U23 programmes, they did a fantastic job!

National U19’s was also played in Wellington at the same time as the U23 Tournament and in the same venue. Congratulations to Auckland Netball Centre Team 1 who had a fantastic tournament taking out the NAG U19 tournament against Wellington in a very close final. Further congratulations needs to go to Shekynah Clarke (Auckland), Meretini Fuimaono (Auckland), and Tarrantina Tuliloa (Auckland), Stephanie Collins (Papakura), Fa'amu Ross (AMI North Harbour) for making the U19 Tournament Selection.

National U17’s was held in Hastings at the Hastings Netball Centre from July 22 to July 25. Auckland Netball Centre Team 1 had a great U17’s tournament finishing in second place to Christchurch and the Auckland Netball Centre Team 2 finished in third place overall after a hard fought 3rd & 4th playoff against Wanganui. Congratulations must go to Holly Fowler (Auckland), Chiara Semple (Auckland) and Maia Wilson (Auckland), Popua Aleamotua (North Harbour 1),  Grace Kukutai (Waitakere), Mechaela Sokolich-Beatson (North Harbour 1) for making the Tournament Selection.

A huge thank you must go to everybody who was involved with all teams who competed at the National Age Tournaments! It takes a huge amount time, organising and resourcing to get these teams to tournament but I am sure it was all worth it and everyone had a fantastic experience!

  •  Successful U23 tournament for both teams, no we didn’t win but it was success in terms of exposing players and coaches to that level and seeing how they adapted and performed. A lot of positive learning’s for the players, management. Reviews will now begin for both players, coaches and management.
