NetballSmart update

Hi Everyone,

My name is Lee and I recently began my new role as the NetballSmart Development Officer for Netball Central Zone.

The NetballSmart Development Officer role has been developed primarily with the aim of reducing the number of injuries that occur during netball, helping all players and coaches to participate as much as possible, and enjoy a lifelong involvement in the game.

To illustrate the opportunity that we have to make a difference, over 300 netballers have their ACLs reconstructed each year, with over 8000 injuries occurring in the 10-14 age group alone. We also see a 300% jump in injury rates during April to May in the 10-19 age group. Stats such as these only reinforces the opportunity in front of us.

I’m sure most of you will have heard of the NetballSmart warm up program by now and that is the starting point for most of our interventions. However, the NetballSmart program will continue to grow, enabling us to offer the best advice to our players and coaches around injury prevention, smart strategies for training, growing a healthy netballer and facilitating performance enhancement for all age groups and levels.

Please get in touch with me if you have any queries regarding the program, or if you require any further information.

Thank you and I look forward to meeting you all soon.

Lee Spence
NetballSmart Development Officer
